Say hello to this big beauty — The Huntress.
This Toyota Land Cruiser 79 Series (1HD-FTE) is truly one of a kind. She once served as an ambulance in Fitzroy Crossing, Kimberley, saving lives before she found her way to me — a newly graduated architecture student back in 2021. I had the privilege of reinventing her from a retired ambulance into a home and office on wheels, and together we’ve had some of the most exciting adventures…
I had the privilege of reinventing her from a retired ambulance into a home and office on wheels, and together we’ve had some of the most exciting adventures imaginable.
Performance & Mechanical
The Huntress takes great pride in her reliability. The 1HD-FTE, widely considered one of Toyota’s best diesel engines, has been serviced regularly with documented history.
Recent upgrades include:
New turbo, driveshaft, and center bearing (1 year ago)
New engine belt and radiator (1.5 years ago)
Swivel hubs and alternator replaced (2 years ago)
She drives beautifully on all types of terrain.
Additional features:
Extended chassis
Airbag suspension
Dual 75-liter diesel tanks
The Canopy Build
Designed for durability, the canopy is constructed from aluminum RHS, clad with aluminum sheeting, and finished in a custom camouflage paint job (by me) — discreet in the bush, a little less so anywhere else.
Access is through three doors: two at the front of the canopy and one large rear entrance.
Inside, you’ll find:
110-liter water tank with pump and shower outlet
45-liter Engel fridge
Pantry + cupboards
Large single bed
Drawing table/workspace
Two 110-kg slide-out drawers at the rear
Outside, inside the forth door, sits the kitchen. On top is a carpeted yoga deck with storage space hidden underneath — the perfect place to stretch, meditate, or watch the sunrise.
It’s hard to fully capture how special this vehicle is — she’s truly something that needs to be experienced in person.
As you can probably tell, it matters to me that she goes to someone who will genuinely appreciate her, care for her, and keep her adventuring for many more years.
And let’s be honest… you’ll probably earn a few bonus points if you’re a middle-aged Aussie who knows your way around the guts of a car.
